Monasteries are a recurring theme in modern board games. The exhibition "Mönch ärgere dich nicht" shows how medieval monastic culture is negotiated in modern analog games. The focus is on questions about recurring motifs, such as beer-drinking monks and warlike nuns, and what this in turn tells us about the idea of monastic culture in our society. Everything from board games to card games and TableTop is included. The exhibition also provides an insight into the work of scientists who are studying modern analog games. The exhibition was created by the Boardgame Historian project. Support was provided by the Haus des Spiels and the project was financed by the Spiel des Jahres e.V.

With the kind support of:

Prototypes - Saturday & Sunday

Midhalla - Fyrnwest Games – Eike J. Meyer

Midhalla is a true Euro-cooperative dungeon crawler where combat has no luck elements. In addition to strategic hero mechanics, it features tower defense elements and a character-centric story-based campaign. Kickstarter is scheduled for August.

Flying Gang - Dirk Blech

In “Flying Gang” you take command of a ship in the 17th century and try to become a member of this gang. It is a turn-based game for 2-4 players in a historical setting. There is not much information about “Flying Gang” on the internet, so I thought I would make a game about it.

DOMINATE & DELEGATE - DI Thomas Denkmeier

Release and sale in the spring of 2024. Board game implementation of Command&Conquer.

MAYACO - Marcel Wenzel

Co-operative dungeon crawler that takes you on an unprecedented adventure journey thanks to a thematically new garb, differentiating itself from other dungeon crawlers with its novel and in-depth Eurogame resource management – both in the combat & movement mechanics, as well as in the individual character development – yet at no point losing its thematic depth. Move as MAYA warriors and warrior women (all 3D characters) in the jungle through the ruins of your once-thriving civilization, trying (in a nutshell) to prevent the downfall of your culture. Game Info: Cooperative expert game for 2-4 players.

Knee deep in Hexes - till5am Games

1v1 strategy skirmisher: collect resources, build tanks, conquer the planet. Your favorite 90s RTS PC games, but as a board game. In our 1v1 skirmisher ‘Knee Deep in Hexes’ you fight over scarce resources on a distant desert planet, building refineries, factory halls and units – from fast build-up vehicles to gigantic palooza. Use your deck of tactic cards and concoct strategies to either destroy the enemy headquarters or destroy the most units as quickly as possible.

The Fallpoint - Vivek Mehta & Stefan Wingo

A cooperative climate apocalypse board game in which players take on the role of residents who want to save their city and themselves from an impending climate catastrophe. At the beginning of the game, players are placed in a crisis situation that threatens to destroy the foundations of the city. Social problems lurking in the background increase the scale and speed of the decline. In this race against time, players must band together and take action to combat the increasingly critical threats in order to stop the city’s downward spiral in time.

Vor[ur]teile - Vorurteile Games

“Every prejudice can also be an advantage!” A secret nationality, a trip around the world, a bunch of prejudices that you can use to your own advantage or against others, and lots of fun! But beware, your actions can also harm the environment and eventually even lead to Armageddon, or “Game Over” for everyone.

Constellations - Ivo David
Head2Head - Street Race - Benjamin Kelkel

2 to 4 players – 30 to 45 minutes, ages 10 and up. Embark on a thrilling street race with your race car. In a head-to-head race, you’ll weave your way through dense traffic, cut off your competitors and try to cross the finish line first. At its core, Head-2Head – Street Race is a competitive hand-management racing game. You program your actions before each round based on your hand cards. In doing so, you constantly run the risk that your fellow players or the neutral traffic on the streets will get in the way of your plan.

Cozener Conscripts - Dániel Ballabás & ChrisChinchilla

2 players, 20-30 minutes playtime, Ages 12+ Main mechanics: I cut, you choose, Worker Placement, Area Majority/Influence The players are two conscripts, who cannot wait to finish their mandatory military service. They also want to make the most out of their situation, namely, taking as many „souvenirs“ as they can so they can begin their life after the service as rich as possible. The victor is the player with more treasure at the end of the game.

Vagrant Puppies - Dániel Ballabás & ChrisChinchilla

2-4 players, 15 minutes, Ages 6+ Main mechanics: Dexterity (flicking) In the game, the vagrant puppies are represented by flicking items on the map, aiming for spots where the Interesting Things are. The winner is the puppy first to complete the rows of fun activites on their sheets, or the last puppy to be taken home by their owners.

The Good Book - Dániel Ballabás & ChrisChinchilla

2-4 players, 45+ minutes, Ages 12+ Main mechanics: Deck building, Tableau building, Area control Players are trying to craft the holy book of a fictional faith, with the goal of creating the most virulent religion, able to spread faster amongst the people on a fi ctional landmass. Players score points based on their infl uence over the map. The full game plays up to 3 eras over an expanding map, but we will only demo a shorter version of the game.

Prototypen - Samstag

Kelp - Shark vs. Octopus - Wonderbow Games

An asymmetrical game for two players. Each player achieves victory in a different way. The Octopus player uses cards to hide and manipulate pieces on the board, and the Shark player uses dice, moves around the board, and tries to hunt the Octopus. Deck builder meets dice bag builder. Hide and seek meets bluff and manipulation.

Taxic - Peter Vonhoegen

1 to 4 cab drivers duel for the highest passenger transport revenue and are not afraid to snatch passengers from under each other’s noses. Anger built up in traffic quickly leads to violations of traffic regulations. But beware when the police see it! An upscale turn-based family game with variable cab drivers and companies in a large city with built-in traffic lights.

Pickup Race - Nikolas Grohmann

You are managers of competing freight forwarding companies. You start with a warehouse and a vehicle and have to make a decision: Do you head for the nearest production facility, even though there may be few goods there? Or will you take a longer route for more goods? What is the competition doing? Is there an opportunity to thwart their plans and steal goods? Or should you get to safety yourself? Which goods are rare on the stock exchange and bring a lot of coins? Which goods can you buy cheaply from the market? With which vehicles and warehouses do you want to expand your possibilities? How many vehicles and warehouses can you operate at the end of the day? Only those who make the right decisions will become the triumphant transport mogul in the end.

Temple Run - Michael Arnold

A children’s game (from 6 years) full of movement and fun, in which 2-3 intrepid adventurers venture into a temple full of dangers to be the first to find the legendary treasure. On this perilous path, you need fun movement, a good memory and a little luck.

Veggie Moon Valley - Michael Arnold

An easy Roll & Write connoisseur game for 1-4 players with a playing time of about 30-45min. In this game you try to plant drafted vegetable seeds in your patch to sell them at the local market at the right moment. Skillful planting can earn you more victory points and unlock helpful bonuses. In addition to various maintenance categories, there is a market mechanism that always keeps prices moving.

HUDDLE UP - Master the Plays, Dominate the Field - Kai-Ole Ehrlich

A board game implementation of the hype sport American Football. In 1 vs. 1, the objective is to manipulate the dice to one’s advantage as much as possible, both offensively and defensively, by playing out moves.

Kontrapunkt - Constantin Borngesser

(2-4 players) compose together with note and special cards, fulfill orders, correct notes and listen to the piece.

Prototypen - Sonntag

Heroes of Xhandar - Florian Fiedler & myBrickZ

A trick dueling game where you play multiple cards per trick (in 2-player mode, recommended). The cards are either high or bring actions when played. Medium-high cards bring points, but have no effect. You should loot these or try to capture them from your opponent. Winning a Duel Point advances the Hero on the player’s Hero Board and triggers more and better abilities. A player wins when he has the required number of victory points,
as noted on the hero. The hero figures are sticky brick figures (not LEGO, but myBrickZ). The Kickstarter campaign runs from mid-August.

Space Odyssey – Journey Home - Martin Taferner

A thematic flick game for 2 people with a game duration of 15 to 30 min. traffic rules. But watch out for the police! An upscale turn-based family game with variable cab drivers and companies in a large city with built-in traffic lights.

Erntezeit - Timo Schievelbein

In the game “Erntezeit”, the goal is to run a successful farm and use its yields to feed the increasing number of villagers. The aim is to keep track of the resources, stables, pastures and income, while at the same time ensuring that the animals are kept as species-appropriate as possible. But beware: a family of wolves has recently been spotted in the area, and it’s better to guard against them. In addition, the special requests of the villagers should not be neglected. The game is won by whoever has the best reputation among his villagers after 10 rounds.

SUNDAY LEAGUE FOOTBALL - Vicente Vicuna

A strategic, deep football game that is planned to be launched on September on Gamefound!

Syncanite Foundation - Syncanite GmbH i.G.

A unique area control & deduction board game with auctions, where 2-6 cruel Conspirators manipulate nations for their own gains. The Foundation‘s conspirators (the players) also do not shy away from assassinations and the deliberate triggering of global crises for their own benefi t. Crises can also be opportunities: A total of five victory conditions can be unlocked. And each of them adds a new mechanic to the game that will decisively influence its course. How far will you go to take control of the Sycanite Foundation and the nations of the world?

CRUX: A Bouldering Board Game - Alexander Koppin, Asger H. Granerud & Daniel S. Pedersen

1-4 players, cooperative and with family game level Alex (Hunter & Friends | Berlin Con) has teamed up with renowned game designers Asgar H. Granerud and Daniel S. Pederson (Heat:
Pedal to the Metal). Together they are now working on this game. Experience the current state of “CRUX”, a playful implementation of the activity bouldering (the climbing on rocks or climbing walls without rope protection). The goal of the game is to climb to the final hold of the boulder problem before you get tired and have to start all over again. You play together as a team and everyone tries to help the climber on the wall. Try out how many challenges you can complete as a team, or try your hand at full tournament play.
